The best values in flooring since 1970
Our philosophy at North Oxford Mills Carpet and Flooring has been consistent since our business was founded in 1970 – provide quality installation of superior products at outstanding values. We have maintained this philosophy throughout the years, even after Bernie sold the business to Robert Mack (current owner) in 2005. As a result, our word of mouth business has propelled us for more than 50 years. And while we are certainly not the largest flooring dealer in the region, our commitment to meeting our customers’ needs in a low pressure, comfortable environment keeps our customers coming back again and again.
Part of our success comes from the fact that we try to sell higher quality goods at very competitive prices. Our store started as a carpet store, and we quickly learned that selling carpet provided the greatest value to homeowners. Carpet provides outstanding resilience, durability and cleanability over the longer term.
We sell and install carpeting, laminate, hardwood, tile, cork, luxury vinyl tile and linoleum for both the residential and commercial markets. Whether your job is a six by five bathroom, or an entire house, we will show you the same commitment to quality that has kept us thriving for over 50 years.

Business History
I. Edinberg Company was a family textile processing business started in 1900. The mill was powered off of the French River until the hurricane of 1955. In 1947 the business was passed down from Isaac Edinberg to his son William and in the early 1960’s the business evolved from yarn spinning to the manufacturing of braided rugs. The business at this point was both wholesale and retail and braided rug accounts were established all over the country.
In the early 1970’s, we started selling broadloom, wall to wall carpeting to the retail and commercial markets. Bernie Edinberg, spearheaded this effort and quickly developed an affinity for the Stainmaster brand of nylon fiber used in carpeting. Bernie started buying rolls of carpet for our inventory and we quickly became known as having terrific products available for immediate delivery. In the 50 plus years since, we’ve stayed true to our belief that better carpet fibers create better carpeting for our customers.
The mill was an integral source of employment for North Oxford and its surrounding towns. Clara Barton herself (founder of the Red Cross) was said to have worked at the mill. Also, over the years, one of our more notable customers was the late Katherine Hepburn, who purchased several rugs for her Connecticut home.
Unfortunately, we stopped making braided rugs in 2020. It was a wonderful part of our business for over 50 years!

Mill Building History
The building we occupy is an integral part of our store’s uniqueness. The building itself started as a cotton mill in the mid 1800’s. We thing that in the early 1900’s there was an actual carpet mill housed here making 27″ wide carpet that was hand sewn together on the job. Across the street from our building, we own over 25 acres that is part of the French River Waterway. The dam there used to control the flow of water that helped supply the power not only to our building and the manufacturing process, but also to many homes around this area. The Hurricane of 1955 destroyed part of the dam and the building was at that point, transitioned to standard electric power.
Walk around our building now and you will see many of the old machinery, tools and instruments that have helped us run this business for more than 75 years.
